The Old Library, Stourbridge

The original Stourbridge Library was built in 1904 with money provided by the famous American industrialist, Andrew Carnegie, who believe that libraries were key to the education of the working man. It is a beautiful building and has recently been completely refurbished to become the headqarters of an architects practice. Interestingly, the construction team said structurally the building was in remarkably good condition and had no foundations in the conventional sense, being build directly on to the sandstone bedrock that is such a feature of the Stourbridge area. The clock tower was added later in the 1920s. Back >>>
